Midas Hospitality has delivered its first uptown Charlotte hotel, five years after the original developer abandoned the project.
The St. Louis-based developer and hospitality management company opened Element Charlotte Uptown, a Marriott-branded hotel, at 650 S. Caldwell St. in July.
The nine-story, 173-room extended-stay hotel has studio and standard guest rooms with king- and queen-sized beds, as well as one- and three-bedroom suites. Rooms include a refrigerator, microwave, smart TV and workspace with desk and complementary internet access.
Element Charlotte has a lobby bar that offers an evening social for guests, as well as complimentary breakfast and valet parking. Its amenities include a state-of-the-art gym and large conference rooms to accommodate corporate meetings, trainings and social events.
Linda Eigelberger, Midas principal and chief commercial officer, said the company was drawn to the location because of its proximity to attractions like The Spectrum Center, Bank of America Stadium and the NASCAR Hall of Fame, as well as various museums, restaurants and other local amenities.
The market’s continued growth was the other major driving factor in Midas’ decision to build in uptown, Eigelberger said.
“What we have found is, not only is there substantial corporate growth and medical field growth, but Charlotte and uptown are also great for weekend travel,” she said. “It’s just an incredibly healthy market.”
Midas partnered with American Bank of Freedom and Twain Financial to finance the project. The total project cost was $50 million.
